The house "as is"

So... we bought a house.

Here is a picture from Day 1:

As you can tell, Andrew was really excited.  It was in the middle of April, it was actually cold, and those shrubs were beyond dead.  It was a great day.

We were exactly 5 weeks, 5 days from our wedding day and we had a LOT of work to do (on the wedding AND the house).  Our plan was to move in before July 1 so that we could not pay for 2 houses at the same time past that point.  {Spoiler alert: we did.  Additional spoiler: it was a lot harder than we thought it would be to live in a construction zone!}

The house was in surprisingly impeccable condition without any updating.  There wasn't a single stain on the [sometimes] 50 year old carpet, no spots on the walls - even though they had never been repainted from what we can tell - and nothing more than just age.

With that said, we still tore it apart.

Here is your house tour:

The Front Bedroom (a.k.a. The Blue Room, a.k.a. The Guest Room)

This room was a true blue... from walls to carpet, to trim, to closet, to doors and beyond.  It was so blue we thought the ceiling was blue at first!

And then we found out exactly how blue it was.

See that? The inside of the window (I call them the slats, but who knows what their actual name is!), and the inside trim of the window was painted BLUE.  They were nothing if not thorough - about everything!

The Back Bedroom (a.k.a. the Office, a.k.a. the Dog Room)

This room is the largest of the two spare rooms.  And the closet space - oh my! Due to the closet situation, and due to the fact that my work clothes would be located in this room, we decided to not make it a guest room.  So instead we fashioned it into an office/dog/closet/dressing room situation.

This room was by far in the best condition.  The inside of the closets were a different color yellow than the walls, but at least the trim was still white! And the back of the door!

That bed was left in the room when we bought the house.  As of today, we have not moved it back in but when everything else gets done (who knows when), we have some fun ideas for it.

The Master Bedroom, Closet, and Bathroom (no alias)

Unfortunately, the master also had a paint identity crisis that the front bedroom had.  Green paint, matching green trim (in a different paint type, mind you), but luckily, it didn't have green doors.  The closet (middle, bottom) was lime as opposed to seafoam - which kept things interesting.  As far as we could tell, the curtains were original, and all of the outlets were so far out-dated we had to call in the experts to find out what some of them were (thanks older-members-of-the-family-who-won't-be-named!)  It kept things interesting though!

As for the bathroom, the paint is peeling from improper humidity control (a.k.a. a vent), and the vanity/sink combo needs to be updated.  But the tile around the bathtub is actually pretty new and in wonderful shape.

We are ignoring that the mirror is so high that only Andrew can see into it - and my mother-in-law.

The Guest Bathroom

This bathroom is in a very similar situation as the master bathroom.  It is right across the hall from the front bedroom (and was a very similar blue!).  The mirror is short-person-friendly and the tiling in the shower/tub has also been updated as some point.  However, it also has the same no-vent issue the master has.  So our eventual plans are to at least do the walls, floor, counter top, and sink.  But we would love to redo the cabinets, toilet, and tiling if money weren't an option (yeah right!).  If anyone wins the lottery and wants to share, let us know.

I am putting together a post to show the "entertaining" spaces of the house and the pictures of the reason we bought it.  No, it wasn't the linen closet (that I didn't even take pictures of) - even though I had always wanted one.

Until then!
